Are you MISSING A TRICK when goal setting?

Most humans thrive on getting out of their comfort zone (when we allow ourselves to do it!). Ever achieved something that you didn’t think was possible - you want to shout it from the roof tops!
“I DELIVERED MY BEST PRESENTATION IN FRONT OF HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE!”
Suddenly, we are no longer the same kind of human we were before. We have transformed! Ask us to do it again and without hesitation we say “YES!”.
I’m sure you’ve all heard - “what you focus on, is what you get”. Your brain is clever, it would get overwhelmed if it took all the information in throughout your day, so it narrows things down. It only takes in anything that is relevant.
Having and focusing on a goal, our minds start to see only what’s relevant to that goal; our minds are drawn to that goal. Our experience of life starts to change. We see ourselves in a different light, we must transform and grow as people to achieve these goals. The energy of our life changes.
Without goals we can feel like we are drifting through life. We can react to the world around us rather than making conscious choices each day.
More and more people know that having a goal just isn’t enough. Here are three extra layers you can add this year to your goals.
First, be specific. The more specific you are, the more likely you are to achieve the goal. Most of us will have come across SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant & Time-based.
Ask yourself, “does this goal stretch me as a person?”, “Does it get me out of my comfort zone?”, “Is it relevant to my bigger vision?”.
Secondly, what kind of person are you to achieve this goal.
Example: Somebody who is authentic, who keeps bringing rigor day after day even when they don’t want to.
Thirdly, what skills have you developed. What’s missing right now from your skill base to have you achieve your goal?
Example: public speaking, communication, consistency, accountability, goal setting, planning. Finish this sentence:
To achieve my goal of ….
I am somebody who can...
I have the skills of...
Example: To achieve my goal of earning £10,000/month by December 2022. I am somebody who can easily sell my coaching program with authenticity and integrity. I have the skills of consistency, authentically connecting with others and doing what I said I would do. My top 5 skills I took on from 2021 which made a difference.
Keeping my goals in existence.
Scheduling in my calendar.
Being consistent.
Have someone keep me accountable.
Doing what I said I would do.
Simple right?
Yet it’s so easy not to do! I find the biggest one is CONSISTENCY. We are naturally rubbish at being consistent! We allow ourselves to get in the way ALL THE TIME! “I’m not good enough”, “I don’t have enough skills”, “People will judge me”, and stop doing what works.
WE stop ourselves from getting there.
